Ditching the Dark: A Bright Home Makeover

When our clients came to us, their first floor felt heavily dated, dark, and compartmentalized. Between rooms cut off from one another and a heavy presence of classic 1990s honey oak, the space felt cramped despite having plenty of square footage. They needed a lighter, brighter atmosphere that could comfortably keep up with the demands of daily family life. To give them the open, airy feel they were craving, we started by refinishing the overwhelming honey oak throughout the main level to immediately lift that heavy visual weight. Then, we opened up the layout to allow natural light to flood the entire floor and create an effortless flow for entertaining.

The Kitchen Overhaul: We removed the original, cramped peninsula and installed a massive central island to serve as the new heart of the home. For a bold, grounded accent, we anchored the island with a rich charcoal cabinet finish, contrasting beautifully against the lighter surrounding elements.

Seamless Countertops & Backsplash: To achieve a sleek, low-maintenance aesthetic, the clients opted for continuous slab quartz that flows directly from the countertops up into a full-height backsplash.

Dedicated Coffee Bar: We added a custom coffee bar off the main kitchen work zone to keep morning routines smooth, organized, and completely out of the main cooking path.

Fireplace Built-Ins: Custom built-ins were added to frame the living room fireplace, offering maximum storage and functional display space to easily hide away clutter, toys, and media equipment.
