Beyond Aesthetics: What Being Featured in Women’s Journal Means for the Tolin Designs Team

We are grateful to share the exciting news of our founder and lead designer, Krystal Tolin, being recently featured in Women’s Journal in an article titled "Krystal Tolin Is Building a Design Business Around the Meaning of Home."

While industry recognition is always an honor, this feature means something deeper to our entire team. It captures the heart behind Tolin Designs and highlights why we do what we do every day across Northeast Ohio.

Design Rooted in Resilience and Resourcefulness

For Krystal, the concept of "home" was formed long before she launched Tolin Designs. Moving ten times before age 12 and losing her father at a young age taught her early on that home is far more than a physical address, it is a vital source of security, comfort, and peace.

Growing up, she watched her mother and grandmother transform spaces on limited means using secondhand finds, paint, wallpaper, and pure imagination. That spirit of resourcefulness and reinvention became the foundation of her life and business philosophy: our starting point never dictates where we can go, and limitations are simply invitations to transform.

“I wanted to create more than beautiful interiors. I wanted to create environments where families could gather, businesses could thrive, and people could experience peace and belonging.”
— Krystal Tolin, Founder & Lead Designer

From Passion to a Full-Service Design-Build Firm

Tolin Designs was born out of a desire to create a seamlessly connected remodeling experience. Remodeling can feel overwhelming, which is why we handle every phase under one roof, from initial concept and sourcing to project management and construction coordination.

Over the years, our work has grown from a passionate vision into a full-service design-build firm, encompassing both high-end residential transformations and commercial spaces. You might even recognize our roots from HGTV’s House Hunters: Outside the Box, which featured the historic church that owners, Krystal and Jake, transformed into their family home. That project served as the launching pad for Tolin Designs and beautifully illustrates our commitment to making space for transformation. Today Krystal and Jake continue to lead our team in bringing that same spirit of reinvention to every project we touch.

What Drives Us: People, Craftsmanship, and Community

Whether we are renovating a forever home for a growing family, designing a commercial property where a business can thrive, or appearing on FOX 8’s Design Showcase, our core focus remains unchanged: the people behind the project.

Our philosophy extends beyond our commercial clients and into the Northeast Ohio community we love. One project particularly close to our hearts was supporting Chasing Hope House, an organization assisting young women aging out of foster care. Our team provided labor, flooring, wall treatments, and styling to create a safe, beautiful space that fosters dignity and independence.

Looking Ahead

As Tolin Designs continues to expand its residential and commercial work, Krystal is taking her message of resilience, entrepreneurship, and faith to broader platforms through speaking and future writing projects.

We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our clients, trade partners, and community for trusting us with your homes and businesses. This national recognition belongs to all of us!
