There is a beautiful moment in a family’s journey when the chaotic, joyful years of raising kids transition into a quieter, more intentional chapter. For one local couple, saying goodbye to the "busy house" phase meant it was finally time to focus on themselves. Having saved for years to create their ultimate forever home, they partnered with us to completely reimagine their entire first floor.

We stripped away the high-traffic, kid-friendly layouts of the past and replaced them with refined, sophisticated luxury designed for relaxation and entertaining. Here is an inside look at how we turned this family home into an empty-nester’s paradise.
Reimagining the Footprint: A Flow Made for Entertaining
Previously, the home’s layout was highly compartmentalized. The kitchen was small and completely separated from the dining room and sunroom. To fit the couple’s new lifestyle, we completely flipped the script on the floor plan to prioritize openness, light, and flow.

We opened up the original dining room completely and relocated the kitchen right into that space. Now, you walk through new oversized double French doors and you are immediately greeted by a stunning kitchen and a massive statement island the moment you walk through the front door. The oversized island was intentionally designed for hosting — giving plenty of seating, prep space, and room for everyone to gather naturally.

Creating Intimate Zones
Moving the kitchen allowed us to reimagine the rest of the first floor to create a natural, connected flow of entertaining zones:
The Coffee Bar & Chat Area: In the footprint of the old kitchen, we designed a cozy chat room complete with a custom coffee bar and a small table—perfect for intimate morning coffees or casual evening conversations.
The Sunroom Transformed: We converted the bright, window-filled sunroom into the home's new formal dining room.
The Dry Bar & Architectural Arches: Connecting the new dining room to the chat area is a beautiful new arched opening, accented by a sleek dry bar that bridges the two spaces.
To complete this entertainer's dream layout, we designed and built a custom wine closet with specialty glass detail right next to the new dry bar. This creates a flawless, continuous hosting flow from the kitchen, to the coffee bar/chat area, and right into the dining room.
The Perfect Countertop Compromise: Luxury Meets Lifeproof
When it came to selecting materials, the homeowners fell absolutely in love with a breathtaking natural marble slab. However, since their original plan was to use quartz everywhere due to it’s durability, we found a solution that gave them the best of both.
A specialized UV sealer was applied over the marble slab. This innovative treatment makes the natural stone entirely etch- and stain-resistant, allowing it to serve as a worry-free, jaw-dropping statement piece on the central island.

For the surrounding perimeter countertops, we paired the marble with Cambria’s Inverness Frost quartz. It offers a beautiful, subtle depth that perfectly complements the marble without competing with it.

High-Tech Integration
The countertops hide another secret feature: inside the coffee bar, we seamlessly integrated a FreePower wireless charger directly within the countertop material. The couple can slide their devices onto the counter, and they charge invisibly without a messy cord in sight. The coffee bar also boasts an instant hot water system, creating an effortless process for making beverages.
Cohesive Design: From the Living Room to the Lighting
The transformation didn't stop at the kitchen. In the main living room, we added custom built-ins for elegant storage and completely overhauled the fireplace with a striking new stack stone surround, giving the space a warm, modern-organic texture.
Tied Together with Light
Lighting was one of the most fun design elements of this entire project. The homeowners discovered a beautiful black and gold light fixture featuring swirled milk glass and wanted to use it to base the rest of the lighting off of. We loved the look so much that we carried a cohesive "black, gold, and swirled milk glass" theme throughout the entire first floor.
The kitchen features stunning gold and milk-swirl glass pendants over the island, while the main living spaces are anchored by a show-stopping, two-tier black and swirled milk glass chandelier.
The Supporting Spaces: Pantry, Powder Room, & Mudroom
To ensure the entire first floor felt unified, we brought the same level of luxury to the home's hard-working utility spaces:
The Laundry Room: Updated to include a highly functional "drop zone" storage area for coats and bags, paired with an elegant new utility sink.
The Pantry: Received a cosmetic update that features a custom stained butcher block.
Powder Room: Now features high-end finishes, like matching sconces and a new complimentary mirror that ensures every corner of the home feels custom and cohesive.
The Next Chapter Begins
This stunning transformation gives the couple the serene, sophisticated retreat they’ve always dreamed of, while offering the ultimate open-concept layout for when the kids come to visit. From morning espresso in the chat room to hosting wine nights with friends, this first floor is officially ready to welcome the best years of their lives.
